Getting involved

Glebe Public School is a school with a great community feel about it. We have wonderful caring staff who bring all of their passion and commitment to educating our children, often giving up their own time to provide our children with extra classes and other additional opportunities to stretch and inspire them. But there are challenges ahead in terms of changes being made to public school funding which mean that the staff at Glebe need our support more than ever. There are many ways in which you can contribute to the school, parents and carers are sometimes needed to help out in classrooms, to organise home readers for children, to put up artworks around the school or to work in the gardens. The P&C is another way to contribute to Glebe Public School. I see the main roles of the P&C as follows:

1. To help build a strong community at this school

2. To provide a link between parents and staff

3. To raise additional funds for the school.

The issue of fundraising is particularly pertinent with the changes in funding to our schools, and the P&C is likely to be needed to assist with maintaining the music program at the school if we are to retain this excellent program in spite of reductions in funding. In the past our main fundraising drives have been applying from grants from government and businesses, our Trivia night, our Bunnings BBQ, tshirt and other Glebe sales.

In terms of building a strong community, last year we put on a Movie Night in winter in the school hall, we provided BBQs for events such as Harmony Day and we had a working bee in the school grounds

All of these things take effort, but many hands make light work so the more people we can get involved the more fun it is for each of us. In the next few weeks we particularly need help with printing more Glebe tshirts (we generally do this during the school day in the canteen), helping to put on a BBQ during lunchtime on Harmony Day and organising our Trivia night.

If you have the time and the inclination to get involved in any of these things, please either let me or one of the other committee members know at school one day, send us an email as per the address below. or come to our next P&C meeting.

P&C Meeting Reminder
Just incase it slipped your mind last week before you put it into your calendars, the first P&C meeting of the year will be on Tuesday 25th February, 630pm in the Computer lab!!! We try to keep it as relaxed and informal as possible, and it is a fun way to get to know some parents and staff a little better,

Trivia Night 5th April

The other date to mark in your diaries now is Saturday the 5th of April for Glebe Public Schools 2nd Trivia Night. Our first was held in November 2012 and was such a marvelous success. BUT it takes a lot of effort to get it organised, so if any parents or carers are willing to help out in any way please let us know. Everything from asking businesses for sponsorship, to selling tickets, decorating the venue, putting up posters and organising raffles and silent auction items.

Cheers
